Pigeon Forge Vacation Tips: Family- Friendly Outdoor Activities

Turn your Pigeon Forge family vacation into an exciting one on your next trip by adding our picks for the best family-friendly outdoor activities in Pigeon Forge to your plans. Whether you want to experience the best attractions or try unique activities, we've compiled the perfect list to satisfy your desires throughout your getaway.

An Outdoor Activity For Everyone

If there's one thing that holds true about the Pigeon Forge area, it's how much there is to see and do in this lovely city, and outdoor options are no exception. During your trip, you'll enjoy access to everything from fun outdoor activities in Pigeon Forge to playing at top outdoor attractions, ensuring you'll go home with fond memories.

Horseback Riding

Sometimes, the best way to experience the great outdoors is away from the crowds. For this reason, we've put together the best options for enjoying the outdoors with family off the beaten path.

Big Rock Dude Ranch at Ponderosa

At Big Rock Dude Ranch at Ponderosa, you and your family will follow a 3.5-mile trail through the mountains. The best part is there are 80+ horses of varying size and strength, ensuring there are practically no weight limits. In addition to horseback riding, there is a petting zoo, pond fishing, a museum, gem mining, and more for a fun family activity.

Goldrush Stables

With a location about four miles from the Parkway, the team at Goldrush Stables is ready to satisfy your horseback riding desires. Travel across various trails through a creek, stretching trees, and more for a lovely experience.

Note: Riders must be 250 pounds or less to ride. Children between 3-5 can ride tandem.

Become One With Nature

The best outdoor activities are ones where you don't have to follow a guide. Add to your fun in Pigeon Forge by enjoying pockets of nature found in the Pigeon Forge area with these options.

Douglas Lake

When you love everything about being outside, one place that's a must to visit when the weather's nice is Douglas Lake. Enjoy floating around in the water in your boat or a rental boat. Alternatively, you can enjoy a peaceful moment by fishing if you prefer less action. In addition, there are plenty of restaurants on the shore, making it easy to stay refreshed between playing.

Patriot Park Riverside Walking Trail

One of the best ways to enjoy the great outdoors in the Pigeon Forge area is to go for a walk or have a picnic. The Patriot Park Riverside Walking Trail offers the best of both worlds. Even better, the park is dog-friendly, ensuring your fur buddy can join the fun.

Take a walk by the river or find a spot to sit and enjoy the scenery. In addition, Patriot Park is dedicated to veterans, letting you see several monuments and learn some local history to round out the experience.

Outdoor Gravity Park

Do you desire trying unique things to do in Pigeon Forge? Consider adding the Outdoor Gravity Park to your plans. Here, you'll get to try zorbing, which puts you inside a giant inflatable ball that goes tumbling down a track. Enjoy a single run or try one of the tracks geared toward group zorbing. Either way, you'll have lots of fun.

Classic Attractions

While the Pigeon Forge area offers plenty to do away from the crowd, one of the best things to do in Pigeon Forge outside is to visit top attractions.

Dollywood

Dollywood is one of the country's most prominent attractions and is known for its outdoor appeal. During your visit, you'll enjoy walking around the park, riding rollercoasters, and playing games. For those moments you want to slow down, there are plenty of restaurants and sitting areas, letting you have plenty of fun at your own pace.

Rowdy Bear Ridge Adventure Park

Get rowdy and visit this adventure park with the family. With a tubing hill, a laser gun coaster, and more, there's no shortage of fun for you and your family.

Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster

When visiting Pigeon Forge, one of the best things to try is the Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster. This mile-long coaster sits in the heart of the mountains and sends you all the way down at speeds up to 27 mph. During the ride, you can control the speed if you're not quite up to enjoying the maximum speed possible.

The Island

Enjoy a mixture of outdoor fun and interesting stores and entertainment by stopping by The Island. During your visit, you'll enjoy access to everything from arcades and the big wheel to a wide selection of shops and restaurants. Remember to time your visit for live entertainment, fountain shows, and moonshine tastings. Without question, this attraction is a must if you like a bit of everything.
